It is the policy of the
Home Office that those who wish to settle in the United Kingdom (UK) should be
encouraged to play a full part in the wider community. Since November 2005
people applying for naturalisation are required to show that they have
sufficient knowledge of English language and of life in the UK, by passing
either the Life in the UK test or obtaining an ESOL with citizenship
certificate. If you are applying for Indefinite Leave to remain (ILR) in the UK
or British Citizenship You need to have a certain level of English. If your
current English level is above ESOL level 3 then you will need to sit the
computer based Life in the UK test. Those below this level of English will need
to go on an ESOL with citizenship course and improve their English language
skills by one Entry level. How do you know your level of English? Our highly
skilled specialist language tutors will be able to determine your current
English level by sitting you through an Initial Assessment.
